There's something about that crimson sole, the way each shoe's arch is so carefully constructed to make a woman's legs look ultra-sexy, and the amazing, sometimes even whimsical designs the shoes come in.. there's magic in each Louboutin shoe. I chose to do a whole term report about Christian Louboutin last year. All I had known up to that point about him were his infamous red soles, and the cult following they created among women all over the world. Jennifer Lopez even dedicated a whole song to his shoes! Only when I had read almost every article written about him in English did I really come to appreciate the artistry behind his designs. I'll let these quotes from Christian himself explain further.
(My dream shoes. Louboutin created these for Christina Aguilera when she starred in the movie Burlesque)
“’…basically my inspiration was showgirls. When I was 14 I saw this wonderful videotape of the best cabaret acts in the world. So I started my career working for the Folies Bergere, and ended up combining shoes and showgirls.’” (Wilson)
(The Marie Antoinette shoe. So beautiful!)
“’A good shoe is one that doesn’t dress you but undresses you…For a showgirl, shoes are very important. They provide them with their stability. They need to be beautiful and sexy but not steal the limelight…Shoes need to be able to both appear and disappear…I learnt all of this from the showgirls because their shoes are their weapons of seduction.’” (Callender)
I was so fascinated by everything I read that I absolutely had to see the shoes up close. I went over to his Robertson blvd. boutique and as I was perusing the store, lo and behold, who do I see standing a few steps away from me? Yes, you guessed it. I was too shy to come up and make a fool out of myself (haha) so I decided to just chat with the sales associates instead. Turns out they were having a shoe signing two days later, and if you purchased that day, you could skip the line and go straight to him.
I jumped at the opportunity. Little did I know that the line was going to be this crazy. It was really interesting to see the women lined up. Each one very different, but all sharing a love for Mr. Louboutin. I remember seeing a woman who had a pair of Loubs tattooed on her back. Another woman was so excited to have her wedding shoes signed. There were even young girls lined up, perhaps to have their prom shoes signed?
I would have loved to bust out what little French I learned from my brief French language classes (haha) but I kept it simple and just said thank you.. in English, mind you! I'm in love with Mr. Louboutin's vision, his creativity, and energy that seems to bounce off his designs. It would be such a dream to collaborate with him on something fashion-related one day. Meanwhile, I'll settle for these fabulous Couture Cookies inspired by some of his most popular heels.
I love our Couture Cookies. Cupcakes, cakes and other desserts are awesome but cookies give me a lot more room to be creative and fun. Check out that plate of cookies in that magazine feature above. The concept was boudoir and fashion-inspired so I jumped at the opportunity.
What's great about our Couture Cookies is unlike our other desserts,we customize them to suit your desired theme, just like a couture gown is made to order from the designer. I love how dainty and pretty these turned out, but of course, if you wanted a completely different look, we can do that as well.
This is the inspiration board I used for these cookies. Was really happy with how they turned out!
