Before I started The Sweet Life, I spent most of my free time and school breaks baking up a storm. Although I enjoyed making cookies, cakes, etc, nothing made me more fulfilled than yeast breads. There's just something about the whole process that makes me one happy baker. Kneading the dough by hand (I don't prefer it any other way; using bread machines or anything electronic makes it feel so impersonal, LOL), watching the dough rise, and having the delightful aroma of fresh bread fill your kitchen.. those are just some of the things I love about the experience. My cousin (who I consider to be my sister since we grew up together) has always had a weak spot for my sweet rolls with chocolate. How we ended up giving it the name "Chocobons" I vaguely remember. This is one of the recipes that's a staple in my repertoire because the buns always come out soft and fluffy. The last step, which is to drizzle melted chocolate over the top, makes these buns rich and oh so good. This is my first yeast bread recipe in a long, long time so I'm happy it turned out well. Hopefully my cousin likes it too!
After the first rise (the dough was about 2/3 of that before). I apologize for the messy kitchen and the visible Febreeze in the background!
After rolling out the dough, I put the chocolate filling.
After a long, slow rise, the buns are baked. I wish I could attach a "smell byte" for you to experience the wonderful aromas circling our kitchen while these were baking.
You're cooking for me when you come back to Manila.
In exchange, I will do another shoot for The Sweet Life :D
