Marty D's, Beverly Hills

While walking around an area of Beverly Hills with quiant little shops, small restaurants and whatnot, I happened to stumble upon this little 50's-style retro diner that specialized in hot dogs, burgers, soda fountains, milkshakes..you pretty much get the picture. Like some of my previous posts about restaurants with a vintage diner feel, of course I fell in love. It's always fun seeing small touches and decor that give you the whole retro experience. Makes an already sumptuous burger taste even better.

Outdoor seating area for people like me who usually have a little dog in tow. In fact, I brought my toy poodle Mandy with me when we ate here. What I love about the warmer LA weather is that it permits you to enjoy being outdoors and really savor the laid back California lifestyle.

Juicy burger with cheddar cheese, tomato+lettuce, strips of bacon,and avocado. Absolutely delicious down to the last bite. If you order this, don't forget to add a dash of their special sauce (the one pictured above)

LOVED this. Sweet Potato Fries! Crunchy, slightly sweet/salty, and surprisingly light!

Triple Berry Crisp One thing I wish we had in Manila is accessibility to a good assortment of berries and cherries that are moderately priced. When I'm in the US, I go crazy with these. Here's a really easy Triple Berry Crisp I made with fresh blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. It was so difficult not to sneak in a few pieces while making this! Tossed the berries in a few tablespoons of sugar to give them that beautiful juice when they're baked The crisp part; flour, butter, brown sugar, and oats The finished product! The mix of the tartness of the berries intermingling...

Pinkberry Just a shop away from Marty D's is Pinkberry! Even having been to LA/the US numerous times before, I never seem to drop by this famed frozen yogurt place. I remember hearing so much hype about it when it first opened. Celebrities, long lines; the whole craze that usually comes with a new Hollywood obsession. I must say though, with all the frozen yogurt joints I've been to (I'm a yogurt addict; frozen or regular yogurt, yogurt with cereal, on dessert, etc), this is probably the absolute best one I've had. It's rich, pleasantly sweet and tangy, but still light....
