My Favorite Pie + Tart Place in Hong Kong!

A few years ago, I remember staying at a really bad hotel somewhere in the outskirts of Hong Kong and my dad trying to console us by saying there was a great pie and tart shop in the hotel. After I had my first chicken pie and tasted the buttery, crumbly, oh-so-perfectly baked crust, I was hooked. Suddenly the hotel's shady reputation and its extremely out-of-the-way location didn't seem so terrible anymore.

A lot of bakers probably have their tried and tested recipe for the perfect crumbly crust. Honestly, I'm still in the trying and testing phase, so I'm always so excited when I stumble upon perfection such as this! There's not much information about this chain of shops on the internet, but if you happen to find yourself in HK, do ask around for a nearby Pie & Tart Specialists shop. If great crust makes your heart beat faster as it does mine, you definitely won't be sorry.

Sitting atop the 28th floor of One Peking Road, Hutong has got a prime spot because of its breathtaking view, but when you factor in their brilliantly-executed Contemporary Northern Chinese food, the view almost becomes secondary to the experience. 

Winter melon and dried shrimp dumplings filled with minced pork & Lamb and scallion dumplings

"Shanghai-style" Boneless fish filleted Mandarin fish in preserved vegetable sauce

Ginger fried rice with salty fish. I normally have to dig through this type of fried rice to find the bits of fish, but there was an abundance of it in Hutong's version. So good!

Crispy Deboned Lamb Ribs

This is one of Hutong's most popular dishes and I definitely agree with that. The skin was crisp and full of flavor, while the meat inside was soft and melt-in-your-mouth. I personally liked it better with Hoisin sauce than the one its served with.
